DESCRIPTION:Berkshire High Peaks master classes are free and open to the public! All master classes are at Bard College at Simon’s Rock in Great Barrington\, Massachusetts. \n_____ \nAnthony Devroye\nKnown for his gutsy\, colorful and nuanced playing—and the communicative clarity of his performances—violist Anthony Devroye has helped people deepen their connection to great music for over twenty years. As violist of the Avalon String Quartet\, Mr. Devroye has performed at Carnegie Hall in New York\, the Auditorium du Louvre in Paris\, Biblioteca Luis Ángel Arango in Bogotá\, and the Shrine of St. Thérèse in Juneau\, Alaska. An innovative and inspiring educator\, Mr. Devroye is Professor of Viola at the Northern Illinois University School of Music. He has also presented guest masterclasses at over a dozen universities including Northwestern and UCLA\, and has spent summers teaching at Interlochen\, Madeline Island\, and the Icicle Creek Center for the Arts.  He plays a 2001 viola made by Gabrielle Kundert in Olney\, Maryland. Read full bio here. \nBerkshire High Peaks Festival\nThe Berkshire High Peaks Festival is a performing and teaching summer institute bringing together renowned musicians\, pedagogues and exceptionally gifted international students\, normally held in the cultural hub of the southern Berkshires.  The intimate scale and highest level of talent make possible an invigorating ten days of discovery\, exploration\, bonding and growth.  The festival has an all-inclusive atmosphere\, fostering camaraderie and cross-cultural exchange and understanding. The faculty is similarly international.  In past summers\, in addition to the classical canon\, the music has focused on traditions ranging from Latin American tango to Japanese ceremonial drums to the heritage of Jazz and improvisation in addition to the classical canon. Central to the festival’s mission are performance opportunities for young artists on the cusp of their careers.  Faculty and guest performers have included the most respected classical musicians and teachers of our time.
